Basement project

Lower-Level Family Room

Unfinished basement turned into a media room with a built-in wet bar and a coffered ceiling.

A basement family room that avoids the two things that usually give a finished basement away: a low flat ceiling and no natural focal point. A coffered ceiling grid adds depth overhead and gives the recessed lighting a logical layout instead of a scattered grid of cans.

A built-in wet bar with a beverage fridge occupies the corner, which means the room works for an evening without anyone going upstairs — the practical test of whether a finished basement actually gets used.
