What this involvesKearns has an origin unlike anywhere else in the valley. The site was Kearns Army Air Base through the Second World War, training tens of thousands of airmen, and when it was declared surplus in 1948 the streets, water, sewer and power that had served it were sold on and built over.
The housing that followed was affordable, compact and put up quickly for returning servicemen. That stock still defines the city: small, uniform, structurally sound, and short on the space a modern household expects.
