What building in Brighton actually involves

Brighton is one of Utah’s newest towns, incorporated in 2020, and one of its smallest. It sits at the head of Big Cottonwood Canyon among the ski resorts, with a few hundred permanent residents and a great many more in season.

The building stock is cabins and mountain homes, some old and modest, some substantial and recent. They all share the same three constraints: snow, altitude and access.

How does Brighton’s snow load affect my project?
Roof and deck structures at this elevation carry loads that would be extraordinary in the valley. Any structural change starts from that number rather than arriving at it.
My cabin sits empty in winter — what does that change?
Properties sitting empty for part of the year need plumbing, heating and ventilation designed for exactly that. Freeze protection and moisture control matter more here than almost anywhere else in the county.
When can work happen in Brighton?
Deliveries, crews and equipment all come up one road, and winter conditions can close it. Work is planned around a genuinely short season, where honest scheduling beats optimism every time.
Do I need a permit for this in Brighton?
Anything structural, electrical, mechanical or plumbing does. Brighton issues its own building permits through its building division, and we prepare the submittal, book the inspections and carry the job through to final sign-off — you are not left managing that yourself.
